1. Introduction

SafeTanning ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use the SafeTanning mobile application ("App") on iOS or Android.

By using the App you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

• Skin type — your Fitzpatrick skin type selection
• Tan goal — your desired tan level
• Available days — which days of the week you can tan
• Plan length — how many days your plan covers
• Progress photos — photos you voluntarily add to track your tan progress (stored only on your device)

Information collected automatically

• Location — approximate GPS coordinates, used solely to fetch the UV forecast for your area. Only requested if you grant permission; defaults to a fallback location otherwise.
• UV forecast data — fetched from a third-party UV index API based on your location

What we do NOT collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, payment details, or any account credentials. There is no user account system in SafeTanning.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To generate a personalised tanning plan using the UV forecast for your location
• To power the session timer and step-by-step coaching features
• To send push notifications (session reminders, window alerts) if you grant permission
• To store your plan and session history between app launches

4. Data Storage

All personal data (skin type, tan goal, plan, session history, progress photos) is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. We do not operate servers that store your personal data.

Progress photos remain on your device and are never uploaded to any server.

Deleting the App removes all locally stored data permanently.

5. Third-Party Services

SafeTanning integrates with the following third-party services to deliver core functionality:

UV Index API (currentuvindex.com)

We send your approximate latitude and longitude to retrieve the UV forecast. No personal identifiers are sent. Please review their privacy policy for details on how they handle API requests.

Apple / Google (App Store & Play Store)

The platforms through which you download the App may collect analytics and crash data under their own privacy policies. We may receive aggregated, anonymised crash reports through Expo/React Native's error reporting.

6. Location Data

Location access is optional. If granted, we use your coordinates only to fetch real-time UV data for your area. We do not track your movement, store a history of your locations, or share your location with any party other than the UV index API.

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. The App will continue to function using a default location.

7. Push Notifications

If you grant notification permission, we schedule local device notifications for tanning window alerts, session reminders, flip reminders, and SPF reapply reminders. These are scheduled locally on your device — we do not use a push notification server to send them.

You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or within the App.

8. In-App Purchases

Subscriptions (SafeTanning Pro) are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not collect, process, or store any payment or billing information. All purchase and subscription management is handled through your App Store or Google Play account.

9. Children's Privacy

SafeTanning is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

10. International Users & GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or Switzerland, you have certain rights under GDPR including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you can exercise these rights by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it.

11. Data Security

Because your data is stored locally on your device, its security depends on your device's own security measures (passcode, biometrics, encryption). We recommend keeping your device's operating system and the App up to date.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notice or an update to the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
